Deadpool Review. (A way better love story than Twilight)

If you are looking for the perfect Valentines date movie that is full of laughs, some cool action that won’t put you to sleep, and plenty of shots Ryan Reynolds naked butt, then Deadpool is the film for you!

Based on one of the most outrageous and hilarious comic book characters out there. The character is mercanary who undergoes experimentation to rid himself of cancer that disfigures him, but grants him a wicked healing factor. What makes him so special and unique is his ability to break the 4th wall and speak directly to the audience Ferris Bueller style. The witty one liners and crude humor is perfect for Ryan Reynolds. He IS Deadpool.

The story I expected was a standard revenge tale, but with a love story twist. Now all this time I thought Deadpool was just trolling people for Valentine’s Day, but the movie actual does contain some heart. When we meet ex soldier Wade Wilson, he falls for his true love Vanessa, it goes by fast but we believe in it. Through a montage of love making and nudity, we can understand his motivations for wanting to do right by her. The movie  has some well acted dramatic moments to balance the film which is more than expected from a action comedy. The tortuew and transformation of Deadpool is taken seriously, and becomes one of the most dramatic scenes in the movie.

The supporting cast is good, but they are solely there for Deadpool to throw jokes at. The addition of Colossus from the X-men is cool but he feels a bit too dumb and naive to really feel like a true X man. For better or worse the movies take place in the same universe so hopefully Deadpool will get more funding for a bigger sequel to truly show off what the character can do in a world full of mutants. And Deadpool openly calls its shortcomings.

I enjoyed this movie, and had geekasm and laughter throughout, the downside is that the movie goes by so fast that it feels too short (even though it has a 1 hour 45 minute running time). This movie is worth the time and money. Go to the theater and see it.

P.S. Stay after the credits 😉
